Constructing a Low-Priced and Easy Chicken Shed

Chicken ark is a moniker used in the United Kingdom to describe a portable chicken coop. It is similar to a chicken house, but is smaller and can be moved to any vicinity of the yard. A chicken ark, also known as a chicken tractor, is easy and quick to construct using uncomplicated chicken ark designs and means poultry can replicate instinctive behavior and be sheltered from predators. And you can select what sections of the backyard your chickens are allowed to graze in.

A chicken ark will work perfectly for as many as 4 or 5 pullets and is a prudent solution if you do not want a permanent chicken coup. The most important advantage of using a chicken ark is to get the benefits of free range chickens while keeping them sheltered from severe climate conditions and predators. It can be dragged to a new location every few days to give the chickens fresh forage and keep you from having to tidy up a stationary chicken house repeatedly.

The most common shape for a chicken ark is an "A" frame, which is similar in structure to the sawhorse. The most universal type has a straightforward design, a triangular structure that makes it extraordinarily unproblematic to manufacture, even for amateurs. The only potential difficult part of putting together a chicken ark is putting in windows.

Building a chicken ark is an easy undertaking that only takes a day, so you should be able to get the chicken ark built and chickens installed very fast. Besides "A" framed formations you can construct it with a flat roof. The top can be of any contour. The only critical thing is whether it keeps the interior dry. In addition to the wood house you will ideally want an attached chicken run. This is a space that is entirely enclosed with wire. It's sort of like a porch attached to a house.

A nest box ought to be built into the ark if you aim to harvest dirt free eggs. Sullied eggs have an unappetizing look to them and consequently they need to be cleaned prior to usage. Some people choose to make their arks high so that a small roosting bar is able to be added. This allows the chickens to sleep off the floor like they would in the wild. The ark has a sliding door entrance between the porch area and nesting area so they can be closed in at night for added warmth and security.

You can feed them a supplement or allow them to free range for virtually all of their diet, but there are two problems with not offering supplemental feed. First, they will not find sufficient protein and calcium if they are allowed to free range exclusively, so they will lay very few eggs. And second, you will need to transport the chicken ark every single day, or perhaps more than once a day, to new fresh areas for grazing. The ideal solution is to add to their meals with a feed that contains some grit and calcium. The grit helps them grind and assimilate their foodstuff properly while the calcium is required for producing hard shells.

Many people think that free range eggs are healthier nutritionally, but according to the experts, this is not true. On the other hand, eggs purchased at the local grocery store are usually a good deal older, possess a paler flatter yolk, and peel better when hard boiled. If you plan on hard boiling your freshly collected eggs make sure to let them sit in the fridge for several weeks prior to hard boiling them. Fresh eggs that are hard boiled don't peel without trouble.
