Tractor Trailer Gps
How durable is a regular laptop to shock and vibration?
I am a trucker and have Delorme GPS mapping software for my laptop. I want to buy one of these jotto desk laptop stands for tractor trailers. Tractor trailers bounce around quite a bit. Does anyone know if my computer will be able to handle this? It's a newer acer laptop.. I have heard after extended use under shock and vibration this can damage the hard drive. Some truckers say it will some say they have used their lap tops without any trouble.. What are your opinions... thanks for your responses..
They're actually pretty good but.. stuff happens. I don't drive for a living but I drag my laptop everywhere. It's a 7 year old Compaq Presario 900 and the electronics seem like they'd be happy to keep on running for another decade or so but physically the machine is falling to pieces - cracks everywhere.
With that and my military experience with laptops I'd say go ahead and use a regular laptop but back up everything on a USB memory stick in case something DOES happen and replace the laptop every 3-4 years so you never reach the point of having fatigue related failures.
