Will Tractors be Part of Your Tree-Change?
If you are considering a tree change in your life- one that takes you out of suburbia into a rural setting you may find yourself in need of a tractor. If you have chosen a few acres to retire on a tractor of some kind will almost certainly be necessary to do some of the work involved. Tractors can be used for a host of jobs.
They can pull a fallen tree off a bushy track; be used to gather firewood; become a fire-fighting unit with a few additions such as a carry-all, drum of water, hose and pump, and they can be used to mow or plough if you are bent on growing vegetables or flowers, especially if you intend to do that in a commercial way. They can do many other things too. They can be used to carry equipment for fencing, chain harrow the paddock to spread manure, sow grass seed and more.
But what kind of tractor will you need? For a hobby farm, the smaller tractors are usually quite big enough and there are many out in the market place. Buying a new one may not be within your budget, but you should be able to get a used one without much trouble.
If your land is steep, it may be wise to find a 4WD tractor so that there will be less chance of it tipping over. If you have not had any experience in working a tractor, it would be wise to get some training, or at least take care when you set off up that steep gully.
