Tractor Engine Heater
Please help me! my grand marquis is making some weird clicking knocking sound. help me identify what it is!?
ok my dad found me a white 93 grand marquis for $500. it has awesome paint and interior, but for some odd reason the engine is making a ridiculous clicking noise. it leaks a little oil and has loose spark plugs, (which probably has nothing to do with the knocking). When it cranks up it sounds like tractor, clicking, knocking and so on. its wierd but the clicking sounds like its on the right side of the engine. The car runs and drives, but just clicks as it goes. Due to this problem the engine overheated and the heater hose cracked. I have looked in the water and it has oil or rust in it which led me to believe that the right head or cam was bad. I'd like to ind a cheaper way to fix it before i buy a used motor. So please give me all the info that could help me...thanks.
I suspect the noise didn't cause the heater hose to crack, but rather the cracked heater hose caused the engine to overheat.
From your description of the coolant and "loose spark plugs," I suspect that the engine hasn't received the best preventive maintenance over its life.
If the rest of the vehicle is in decent shape and you have only $500 invested, I would recommend changing the engine - it will probably be less expensive than repairing the one in the vehicle.
