When selecting preparation, primer, and paint, use the same brand to guarantee compatibility, and eliminate some of the job's uncertainties. Thin coats of paint are going to be preferred over a thick coat, as thick paint will chip much more easily. Allow ample time for drying between coats. Remember, lacquer dries fast by releasing solvents into the air, and enamel dries more slowly by evaporation of solvents and by oxidation.
Oxygen acts as a catalyst to chemically toughen the paint. The drying process can be sped up by heat and air circulation, but do not stir up any dust. Tip: Decals and Painted Insignia For a parade tractor, the finishing details are of utmost significance. For a work tractor, one need not got o such lengths, but nice finishing touches will be rewarding. Some of the less-expensive older tractors, for example the Fordson, did not have much in the way of details like pin striping, but others, like the John Deere Waterloo Boy, had complicated scenes painted on the gas tank. Most tractors will need a collection of lettering and logo decals to look finished. Decals, or decalcomania (from French word meaning copy by tracing), come in 2 types : water transfer or Mylar. The water transfers are the traditional decals of the type utilized in model aeroplane building ; they're soaked in water, slipped off the backing paper, and applied where desired, then left to dry.
Mylar decals have a peel-off backing and contact adhesive, The kind you use depends on your personal preference, and what is available for your tractor. Most decal makers are offering the Mylar type because are considered easier to apply and last long. For a parade tractor, be sure you know which decals to use and precisely where they are going. Decal configuration often modified numerous times during the production run of a particular model. In some cases, a good artist can be persuaded to touch up, or revive, a logo or lettering for which decals can't be obtained.
