Drive belt and clutch question for an old lawn tractor...?
Hi, I have an old Simplicity 728 and the clutch always grind when I try to put it into gear. I checked to see if the belt was the right size and it was fine. I tried to loosen and tighten the "belt guides" under the engine...no matter what I try, the belt never stops.
If you have any ideas please help!

If the drive belt is still turning the transmission pulley with the clutch pedal depressed, the belt is a bit too short. Those old transmissions are to be shifted only when everything is stopped.
