John Deere 4020 alternator question?
A couple of months ago we converted our 4020 from a generator to an alternator. When we started it up it made this noise that sounded like the fan was hitting one of the shields, but when we increased the RPM's the noise went away for the most part only every once in a while you would hear hit. Eventually after a couple hours of running you didn't really heart it anymore. We had to put on a new belt also so over the past two months it stretched out so today I tightened it and when I started the tractor it made that noise again. As usual when I increased the RMP's it went away for the most part, and when I turned it off the noise really did sound like the fan was hitting the shield every rotation. What could the noise be, it's more of a clack clack sound.
I checked and the fan is not hitting the shield
I'd look for a fan hitting a shield.
