Help with lawn tractor homemade striping kit?
Alright, so I made a homemade striping kit for my John Deere LX172 lawn tractor last week using semi mud flaps I had laying around. I tried it out today and It's not making predominate stripes in the lawn. Any suggestions as to what I can do to make them "stand out" more? FYI: I bolted the rubber to the back of the mower deck leaving them to hang off the bottom about 3 inches. My thought was that I don't have enough weight on the 1/4 inch rubber to make an impression in the grass. Would it be sufficient enough to bolt 1/8'' steel bars to the bottom of the rubber? Suggestions please? Thanks for your time!
I think weight is important. I used a 3" PVC pipe filled with sand. Though I did get strips in my lawn, it did not stand out. I think that I need to add more weight. I plan on building a new roller and fill it with concrete which is heavier. It took about 2 hrs to build and attach to my Craftman Fairway tractor. Looks really good too...
