Checklist for Buying a Secondhand tractor
Are you going to buy a used tractor? have a look at the following checklist to help you to find the best fit for the job you need to do make and research you should do are no different from those you would make when making any purchase. Once you have identified what you need to tractor to do then you may want to check if your favourite brand name produces it. If there is a make of tractor that has served you well over the years then stick with that. Whatever tractor you choose it is necessary to check the availability and cost of spares and to know whether there is some expertise in the servicing of your particular tractor available nearby; this could save you a lot of time and money over the life of the tractor.
If you have a brand name that you can trust and that you have found reliable it may be that you would prefer to stick with them. All the big brand names are available online; John Deere, Massey Ferguson New Holland, Case IH and others can all be found.
Before you opt for what seems like a bargain it's wise to check that spare parts are not prohibitively expensive for that model and that maintenance services are available reasonably near you. Most tractors prior to that were such that when the clutch was depressed, everything stopped. And there are some companies that are still selling these "bargain" tractors. Your machine must be mechanically sound from the onset and have few problems in the near future (at least till winter when you have time to work on it).
