Ford Tractor Pto Shaft
Ford 9N PTO Shaft to Mower Problem?
I just bought a 1941 Ford 9N and was born way after that so I don't know too much about these old Fords. My problem is that when I attach my pto shaft from the mower to the tractor it slips on but when I raise the mower the shaft falls right off. Is the shaft itself suppose to be spring loaded or is it suppose to some how snap on at each end? I can extend the shaft out more than it would ever have to go with it raised or lowered. I'm just wondering if my shaft could be missing something in the ends or maybe the spring is broke inside the shaft. Please help, grass is starting to grow (Michigan)
As mentioned above, the shaft comming out of the tractor should have an indention in the splines. There is usually a spring loaded pin on the shaft that you depress as you slide it on, when you reach the indention it will lock back. The Shaft should slide easily after it is attatched when you raise it or lower it.

This is similar to what I am talking about. Even though it is on the yoke going to the mower, the same type of pin would be on the end that goes on the PTO.
