Ford Tractor Head Bolts

The monkey wrench, a slender "F" shaped wrench with a parallel jaw, consists of one stabilized end, and one adjustable part with a handle long enough for applying torque. The smooth jaws contrast to the pipe wrench, which has grooves acting as teeth. Deciding which size of monkey wrench to use is determined by the job at hand as they come in a variety of sizes from small to large. Sometimes painted red, this forged steel instrument's main use is to tighten or loosen any metal object that can turn, such as a nut and bolt, or a fitted pipe.
Because of its versatility, the monkey wrench can be used in a variety of places by the whole family. While using one of these, Mom can retrieve her ring by disconnecting the u-shaped pipe from under the kitchen sink, or she could install a new toilet and fix the shower head in the bathroom. When assembling furniture in the dorm room, the college student needs only a few other tools besides a monkey wrench to assemble the space-saving bunk beds.
These are also used by people in many different professions. If the mechanic has an immovable nut, they are the tools to command it loose. Occasionally the monkey wrench is the only wrench carried on the combine or tractor by the farmer in case of breakdowns. Of course the plumber will use a variety of them to install, repair, and replace plumbing throughout the house. A carpenter would also need a monkey wrench to tighten the bolts holding the boards in place of a new deck. Because of its shape, this wrench fits into places where other tools such as ratchets and sockets could not go.
Furthermore, monkey wrenches are uniquely adapted to stabilize one part of a pipe while using another one to loosen or tighten a nut, bolt, or pipe. When using monkey wrenches, the adjustable mouth needs to be opened to fit securely around the head of the nut. To change the size of the opening, twist the adjustment mechanism just beneath the mouth in order to enlarge or decrease the size of the mouth. To loosen the nut, secure the jaws of the monkey wrench over the nut and turn left; to tighten, turn right.
So where did this useful tool originate? Some theories suggest the tool was created almost a century and a half ago, by Charles Moncky, a mechanic from Baltimore, MD, in 1858. Other sources suggest early in the last century, they were standard issue for anyone who purchased a brand new Model T Ford and was named the Ford wrench. Since the evidence of when this tool was created and by whom is unverifiable, we can only guess as to how it got its name. Was it named for its inventor, its shape, or the ones who use it?
Wrenches range from the most common household types to specialty types.
