Hunting coyote at close range from a tractor, do pellet guns work? Or should I be looking at hand guns?

This is not for pelts, just population control. They come very close to my tractor and I want to thin the population with a small, light weight hand gun. But I'm not sure if a good Co2 pellet gun wouldn't do the trick.

I carry a Hi Point C9 9mm on my farm for just the thing, I am over run with coyotes. They are a nuisance to livestock. A pellet gun is not as good it will not kill.
